Zymurgy Magazine Special Issue 1985 All-Grain

The Homebrewer’s Garden, which has some good info on malting, lead me to Zymurgy’s 1985 issue on all grain, which has a pretty good description of a home-made steeper and kiln.
The mid-80’s haircuts and clothing are pretty interesting, too…

Golden Bitter - Batch 2

My second attempt at the Golden Bitter has been very successful so far. It’s the first batch which I’ve brewed utilizing the many new additions to the brewhouse (BeerAlchemy, magnetic stir plate, cooler mash tun w/ false bottom, pH meter, refractometer, pump aeration system).

Cider Carbonation

I’ve bottle the second 3 gal batch of cider—the non-oaked 1/2 of the cultured yeast batch. I’m priming it for 3.75 Vols C02  (the approx. carbonation of wheat beer) or 1.48oz cane sugar/gal.

~150lbs of Unmalted Grains

Let the malting experiment begin!
Keith has procured a small bit of grain for us to begin experiment malting grains with. We have a few different projects planned for the barley, wheat and triticale. We’ll probably begin with a couple batches of wheat beers for testing the process.
